Breast Augmentation Mammoplasty
Breast Augmentation Surgery – Breast Enlargement with Implants Surgery in Melbourne VIC
Breast Augmentation or a Boob Job is a procedure where your breasts can be enhanced with breast implants to help develop a more satisfactory breast contour or cleavage. One of the most popular forms of breast augmentation is to insert breast prosthesis or “breast implants,” typically consisting of either silicone or saline. Depending on your existing breast tissues, you may benefit more from one type than the other – but many women do prefer the natural look and feel of a silicone implant inserted partially under the muscle known as a ‘sub-facial’ placement of the breast implant. Women who request breast implant surgery have underdeveloped breast tissues, highly noticeable asymmetry of the breasts or nipples (or both), breast trauma or breast collapse (deflation) after pregnancy or menopause, or breast disease.
Breast Enlargement – Breast Augmentation using Silicone or Saline Breast Implants
An Augmentation Mammoplasty Surgery is a cosmetic breast enlargement procedure that helps restore and enhances the breast contours to a more desirable, firmer or fuller breast shape (a larger cup size). Breast Implants may also be used in breast reconstruction surgery, when one or both breasts are removed following breast cancer surgery or when prophylactic mastectomy is performed in high-risk breast cancer patients.

Different Surgeon’s have different preferences of types of implants; and in a personalised consultation, you’ll hear more specifics about why one type of implant might suit your body better than another type of implant, as well as why decades of experience have shown your Surgeon that a particular type of Breast Implant might be more appropriate than what your friends chose for theirs.
What’s involved in a breast implant discussion for breast augmentation with a Plastic Surgeon?
At a consultation with Specialist Plastic Surgeon, Dr Geoff Barnett in Melbourne, the current status of your breast tissues and nipple size and position will be assessed and the appropriate surgical techniques (or breast enlargement approaches) will be suggested for the best possible results for your overall body frame, chest size, breast tissues and ideal breast size and shape. Alternative techniques and types of implant choices, as well as incision locations, will also be discussed in a confidential consultation (bring a friend with you to take notes and discuss the information after your consultation).
Decisions are typically a matter of matching what the Surgeon believes will be the best surgical technique for the outcome you are wanting. The planning phase takes into account your body proportions (height, weight, rib cage area, torso length and other factors that influence results), your preferred new larger breast size, and the choices you and your Surgeon will need to make to help you achieve a good, natural-looking outcome for your breast enlargement surgery.
